South Asia

🧭

South Asia, encompassing countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, is defined both geographically and culturally. Bordered by East Asia, Central Asia, West Asia, and Southeast Asia, it features diverse topography, including the Indian subcontinent and the Himalayas to the north. The region boasts a population of over 2 billion people, making it one of the most densely populated areas globally. It’s also home to various religious groups, including large populations of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, and Zoroastrians.

The definition of South Asia varies, with some definitions including countries like Iran and Afghanistan while others exclude them.Β  Despite its distinct geographical identity, South Asia has seen historical and geopolitical complexities, with terms like “Indian subcontinent” and “South Asia” used interchangeably, sometimes reflecting political sensitivities. While there’s ongoing debate about its boundaries and identity, South Asia remains a region rich in cultural diversity and historical significance.
