Read MoreπΊπΏ Uzbekistan (UZB)Central Asia spans from Eastern Europe to Western China and Mongolia, bordered by the Caspian Sea, Iran, and Afghanistan to the south, and Russia to the north. It encompasses Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, commonly referred to as the “-stans” due to their names’ suffixes. Historically, Central Asia served as a crucial hub on the Silk Road, facilitating trade between Europe and the Far East. The region’s population of approximately 72 million resides in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
Geographically, Central Asia boasts diverse landscapes, including mountains, deserts, and vast steppes. Notable features include the Tian Shan mountains, the Gobi desert, and major rivers like the Amu Darya and Syr Darya. While industrial activity is concentrated in urban centers, many inhabitants rely on livestock herding for a living. However, water scarcity poses challenges, exacerbated by the shrinking of bodies of water like the Aral Sea and Lake Balkhash due to irrigation and industrial use. Despite its remote location, Central Asia plays a vital role in the global economy and faces modern-day environmental and geopolitical challenges.
